How To Choose Bridal Jewellery

By:

It's your special day, the day you have dreamed of your entire life. You have chosen the dress, the shoes, the caterer and the cake. The only thing left to choose is your bridal jewellery.

When choosing bridal jewellery, it can be a very daunting task. You have to find the perfect pieces that will compliment your gown without being ostentatious or too subtle. Here are a few tips and ideas to help make the selection just a little bit easier.

One thing to think about is whether or not there is already a favourite piece of family jewellery that you would like to wear. Maybe an heirloom piece that has been passed down through the generations and every bride in your family has worn it for their wedding. This could be a wonderful way to include that "something borrowed" or even "something old" to finish off your look. It may even save you a bundle of money in the long run.

You need to make sure that whatever jewellery you are going to choose compliments both your hairstyle for the day, and the gown. If you have a strapless gown and are going to have your hair up, a choker that is a little weighty may be just the thing. On the other hand, a V-necked gown with your hair down is going to demand simplicity with a simple pendant on a fine chain and maybe some nice stud earrings.

Take into consideration any beading that is on the gown or the tiara when choosing your bridal jewellery. If you have beading, including pearls, you will want to look at continuing the use of pearls in your jewellery. If you have many sequins, continuing with a bit of spark in your jewellery, such as with diamonds, may be the perfect compliment. Many brides now choose a tiara instead of the traditional veil and diamonds look fabulous with them.

A good idea may be to wear a beautiful tennis bracelet or even a pearl cuff. Either piece will look fabulous as long as it coordinates with the rest of your bridal jewellery.

One consideration that you should take into account is the ability to add just a hint of colour with your bridal jewellery. There are many precious and semi-precious gems in soft pastel colours that would look exceeding beautiful on a blushing bride. You don't have to just stick with all white on your wedding day anymore. In fact, many brides have chosen coloured jewellery and they look fabulous.

If you have a specific theme, such as a gothic theme, on your wedding day, you will want to coordinate your bridal jewellery to match with it. A traditional gothic gown with its layers of lace just won't look right with contemporary earrings.

If you can't afford the real gems, once you know what you are looking for it could be easy to find nearly the same pieces in cubic zirconia or faux pearls. These have the added luxury of being available in many colours as well.
