How To Choose A Wedding Photographer

By:

The photographer is one of the most important aspects of wedding planning. In choosing a photographer there are some key characteristics to look for: experience, style and price range being a few. Finding the photographer who will fit your price range and has the right style for you is incredibly important. These pictures will be in frames and scrapbooks for your children and grandchildren to see so hopefully they are as wonderful as you could possibly imagine!

Firstly, experience is vital in a wedding photographer. This is not the time to ask your cousin's stepson with a really nice camera to try and get some nice shots of your special day. It is perfectly fine to want to save money, but an experienced, professional photographer is essential to having your pictures turn out just the way you want them. Unless your cousin's stepson has been photographing weddings for five years and can give you a killer deal, let him leave his fancy camera at home and hire a professional.

Secondly, photographers are not all created equal. Some may be very talented and experienced but if their work is not the style you enjoy, you won't appreciate your pictures. Seeing a sample of a photographer's work before your event is crucial. Ask about the events they have photographed and the locations in and around Spokane and other cities and towns that he or she may have visited. Browse your photographer's website and/or portfolio to ensure that their style is also your style.

Finally, price range is often a deal breaker. Photographers can be expensive, this is completely true. However, if you use connections and try bargaining a bit, the price may end up being fairly friendly. Ask around and visit several different photographers before choosing one. See what deals are offered and whether you have any special circumstances that could lead to a better value.

Some other characteristics to be on the watch for are personality, grooming, and how long it will take for you to get your pictures back once the event has finished. Will the photographer have them to you in a week or a month?

In the end, with photographers you often get what you pay for. If you are determined to have quality, allot more of your budget to a photographer and see where you can pull back whether it be with decorations or a live band vs. a DJ. You will never regret having fabulous pictures of your wedding and the memories preserved in those photos will last for a lifetime!
