How To Choose A Good Catering Service

What makes a great party, whether it's a bachelorette's escape or the grandiose reception itself? Why, great company and great food, of course! Among the two, you will have more power in deciding on the food. The food should add to the merriment of the moment. It should also be in tune to the personality of the party. Is it casual or elegant? Light or heavy? Fun or traditional? All these will contribute to how your dream wedding will look like and will garner you credit for having good taste and enough pizzazz to throw a great shindig. Here are a few considerations on how to choose the right caterer:

Start your Search Early: Some are lucky enough to stumble into a great caterer while some have to search high and low just to find the ideal one. Whatever path you stumble into just make sure you start searching early so that you will have more room for error. Ask for reviews from friends how their own caterers fared in their own wedding. Oftentimes, there's a name that will usually pop out from the rest. It would also be ideal to go through several food tasting sessions with three or four other caterers. This way you can edit some of their menu packages and interchange some of the dishes if need be.

Check with caterers if they could accommodate special requests: There may be times when a guest or a loved one requests for a special dish that accommodates to their diet or lifestyle. Gluten-free, Kosher or vegetarian diets are the most common considerations for specialized dishes. If, for instance, such dishes are too expensive to accommodate, just make sure that the menu is varied and balanced enough so that everyone is able to eat something out of it. Fresh fruits and fish are great options for the conscious eaters. And it's ideal to befriend and talk to the head waiter even before the event so that should any guest request for any specialized item, he can easily pass the message on to the chef or have one of his people figure something out.

Don't make catering just about food: A caterer's job is not just to provide you with food but his job is also to make sure that there's seamless service from start to finish. He should provide wait staff who are reliable and well-mannered. The caterer's materials, from cutlery to table arrangements, should be of good quality. A good indication of such things would be how the caterer's account manager handles your talks. Does he try to solve the minute problems that come out? Is he helpful in suggesting dishes that fit your style and budget? Does he seem too eager or over-promising? You can tell a lot based on your meetings, so be keen in choosing even before the actual event. Remember, there are no dress rehearsals for catering, so to speak.

Check Their Credibility: Do not rely too much on advertising and promotions when catering is concerned. Always make sure that praise or criticism comes from a third party. The same goes for any magazine or periodical that reviews it. Another good indication is that the catering service has been commended or is part of an organization whose prerequisite includes good hygiene, training and the like.
