How To Change A Flat Tire

By:

The majority of people will all face this situation. Your tire goes flat while you are driving in an area where there is nothing around. If you are lacking the proper tools and preparation, this situation could turn into a nightmare quite unnecessarily. To ensure the safety of both yourself and others, it is crucial that you are able to correctly change a flat tire.

The items that you must have to properly change a tire are a lug nut wrench, spare tire, tire air gauge, and a car jack.

1. In whatever location you get a flat, you must move your car as far away from the road as you can to minimize your level of risk. Try to find a space that is as even as possible when moving the car. After you have securely moved your vehicle away from the road, use your hazard lights and turn off the car. You should then use your parking brake to keep the automobile still. Have you hood in an open position to indicate to oncoming motorists that you are changing a flat.

2. Find an object like a wheel chock or a rock that you can put in front of the opposite wheel to ensure that the car won't move forward.

3. Remove the lug nut wrench, car jack, tire gauge, and spare tire from their storage place.

4. If necessary, take the hubcap off of the wheel using the lug nut wrench.

5. To loosen the lug nuts, utilize the lug nut wrench. You do this by placing the lug nut wrench on the lug nut and then using a turning motion to the left which will begin to loosen it. You should loosen the lug nuts by following a star design which is done by loosening one lug nut, then the one across from it, until you've slightly loosened all of them.

6. You should read the owner's manual for your car to find the correct spot for the car jack before attempting to lift up the car. You'll then use the tire jack to elevate the car a little higher than is necessary for the removal of the flat tire and the installation of the spare one.

7. Take the lug nuts out and place them in a secure location so they are not lost.

8. Take the flat tire off and then replace it with the spare tire.

9. The spare tire should be put on the wheel studs with the air valve facing you.

10. The lug nuts should then be replaced and tightened using the same procedure that was used for their removal. You should tighten each lug nut in the form of a star.

11. Using the car jack, cautiously lower the car back down and then return the jack to the car. Once the car has been lowered, do another tightening of the lug nuts taking care to tighten them as much as you can.

12. Replace the hubcap and then do an air check of the spare tire with the gauge. If there is sufficient air in the tires, you are now able to safely drive the car.

The primary concern while changing a tire is safety. Always be cautious.
