How To Care For Solid Wood Wardrobes

By:

Caring for solid wood wardrobes is not a difficult task if the wardrobes are made of the right wood to start with. Oak, maple, poplar, cherry, and teak are wonderful woods. There are flimsy materials that will not hold up including cheap pine, so be careful of the type of pine when you order wardrobes or buy them locally.

Antique or solid pine wardrobes, on the other hand, are well worth the expenditure. They have withstood the passage of time and have style as well as history and stability. Antiques were much better made and are more sturdy and durable than much modern-day furniture. It can stand much more wear and tear and is able to last a lifetime and continue to be passed along through the generations.

You need to clean such solid wood wardrobes frequently. A good polish brings out the wooden finish and shine. Often a damp cloth and a mild wood cleaner is all that is needed. Some people have used Murphy's Oil soap with great success, but be sure to be careful and use a very light touch with a fine grade steel wool pad.

Protect your solid wood wardrobes with a good wax or perhaps paint. If you use paint, make sure it is the proper kind for this project. Lacquered wardrobes are beautiful. Furniture oil or lemon oil can be painted onto the wood. You can seal the wood with natural Tung Oil, which can also include carnauba wax. Apply it lightly, let it set for about six hours, and repeat. Tung Oil is also the safest one to use as there are no harmful fumes.

A Furniture Cream that has been around for many long years is made by Parker & Bailey. It has been used by antique experts and furniture restorers because of its wonderful rejuvenating results and also because it does not contain harmful silicones, flammable solvents, or dulling waxes.

You can also use Pledge Natural Beauty to shine and refresh your solid wood. It has an Anti-Dust formula that removes dust, dirt, and even common allergens. It protects against water damage and leaves no waxy build up. It is perfect for quick cleaning and comes in an aerosol can or handy disposable wipes.
