How To Calibrate Laptop Battery

By:

If you begin to notice that your laptop's battery is not lasting as long as it used to, then you may be able to improve its performance by re-calibrating it. Most computer companies like Apple and Dell recommend that laptop users calibrate their batteries every couple of months in order to keep them functioning properly. Laptop batteries will run out quicker as they get older, but re-calibrating can improve battery health.
One of the biggest challenges laptop owners have is extending the life of their laptop batteries. The batteries of Dell laptops are generally long-lasting, but battery life will also depend on how a person uses his computer. An effective way of improving the condition of laptop batteries is recalibration. This is a must especially when the duration of your battery life has gotten shorter after a few months or years of usage. It is recommended that you recalibrate the battery of your Dell laptop every two months to maintain its good performance.
Plug off the power adapter and use the laptop until the battery is completely drained. To drain the battery faster, run several programs at once and keep the contrast of your screen to its highest levels. Turn off all power-saving features as well.
Make sure that the battery is totally drained by waiting for your laptop to shut off or go into sleep mode automatically because of very low battery charge.
Connect the power adapter to your laptop (with the battery attached) then plug the other end to the electrical outlet. Check to make sure that it is charging properly.
Charge the battery completely. Monitor the battery indicator, which is usually found that the bottom of your computer screen, to check if the battery is already fully charged.
Drain your laptop's battery by keeping the screen contrast high and running several programs at once. Do not plug your laptop into the power adapter even if you receive a low battery warning.
Connect your laptop's power adapter to the computer. Plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet.
Press the "ESC" key on your computer keyboard to return to the BIOS main menu. Then, press the "F10" key to select the "Save Changes and Exit" option. Your Dell 1200 will continue to boot and the changes you've made to the battery calibration settings will be in effect.
First put the laptop computer to sleep by turning off the screensaver and other power management settings of the computer. Then fully charge the computer and allow it to run all the way down until the computer shuts off automatically. Once the laptop battery has fully drained, charge it back up again and restore the screensaver and power management settings.
Re-calibrate your battery every month or so by fully charging, fully discharging, and then fully charging again. Basically to have a chance to re-calibrate your laptop battery is to turn off all power-saving features completely and then fully recharge them. If it doesnt work for the first time then try two more full discharges and recharges.
If the laptop battery is still bad then it must have developed a memory that cannot be erased easily. If calibration doesnt help, then it is the right time to purchase another battery.
