How To Buy Green Tea

By:

Green tea is grown mainly in China, Japan and a few other Asian countries. The quality of the tea differs widely from region to region. Also, there are several types produced in the same region which may vary in quality. However, because of its increasing popularity, there is a growing demand for this tea from all over the world.

If you are buying green tea for the first time, there are several things which you must consider before purchasing it. Decide whether you want to buy tea bags or loose leaf tea. It is better to buy loose leaf tea because they have better flavor and taste. They are also less expensive than tea bags and can be found in bulk in natural tea stores. Tea bags usually consist of tea dust and shavings, so they arent as aromatic or as rich as loose leaf tea. On the other hand, tea bags are more convenient to use, but they cannot be steeped more than once.

Next, try to find out what kind of flavor you would like best. For instance, if you are used to drinking coffee, you might want to try Hojicha or Genmaicha for their more roasted flavor. If you want a cheaper variety of green tea to start off with, choose a more economical variety like Sencha. On your first trip to a tea store, take your time to feel, smell and taste the tea you want to buy. Buy small samples of everything that appeals to you. Also, never buy this type of tea in big batches because it cannot remain fresh for very long. It has a shelf life of about six months for an unopened package, including shipping and storage in a warehouse, and only two to three months for an opened package of tea.

It is also a good idea to search for deals online. Some stores may alert you when there is a sale with discounted prices during particular months of the year. Find out about where and under what conditions the tea was grown.
