How To Build A Snowman

By:

Building a Snowman is a wonderful way to pass the time on a day when school is canceled. It's also a great way to spend family time outdoors in the winter. While building a snowman is easy to do, you will need a certain kind of snow to accomplish it. The wet, heavy snow is not ideal for building a snowman. To effectively build one, you will need a few inches of the compact, easy to pack snow. Follow these steps to learn how to build a snowman.

In addition to the snow, you will need a few items, such as pieces of charcoal, a carrot, sticks, a hat, or a scarf to decorate your snowman and bring him to life.

Step One: Bundle Up and Gather Your Materials
Make sure those who are going outside to build the snowman are dressed warmly. It is always a good idea to bring the various items you need to decorate your snowman outside with you so that you are not opening and closing the door to your home a lot, letting your heat out and cool air in. Put these items to the side until you are ready for them. If it is still snowing, be sure to cover them with something to keep them dry while you build the snowman.

Step Two: Build the Base
Start by building a snow ball in the area of your yard where you want the snowman to be. You can do this by making a snowball in your hand and continuously adding snow to it and shaping it until the ball becomes too big to hold.

Step Three: Build the Body
Repeat this step for the body, except this time making the ball a little smaller so it will stack well. This ball should be smaller than the bottom ball, but shouldn't be too large because you will be making one more that is even smaller for the head.

Step Four: Build the Head
Repeat step three, making this snow ball even slightly smaller than the middle one so it will stack well.

Step Five: Stacking the Snowballs
If you haven't already stacked the snowballs one on top of the other as you built them, stack the two snowballs on top of the base. If you have, skip to step six. Remember, the largest snow ball needs to be the base, the middle sized snow ball needs to be the body, and the smallest one needs to be the head to keep your snowman balanced.

Step Six: Decoration
Now that the hard work is done, grab the items you brought with you when you came outside. Make eyes, a nose, and a mouth with your choice of items. Add buttons of your choice on the middle snowball. Make arms with sticks, and top with a hat and scarf to add more life.

Now you know how to build a snowman!

If there's enough snow and you're not already frozen to death, consider making smaller snowmen so your snowman has company--or make a snowman to represent all the members of the family.
