How To Bowl A Strike With Skill Instead Of Luck

By:

Every bowler seeks to get strikes, and as many of them as possible. Unfortunately, not every bowler will get those strikes as easily as some make it seem. Learning how to bowl a strike correctly is where most people fail to improve, and as a result achieve minimal success in bowling strikes. However, learning and practicing the proper technique to bowl a strike will ensure greater success on the bowling lanes.

These few simple steps, when applied, will have even the most unpracticed beginner bowling better than ever.

Your stance is the first step to bowling a strike. If you are a right handed bowler, you want to line up with your right foot aimed at the front pin, (also referred to as the head pin). This stance helps to keep your shoulders square with the foul line, which they should remain throughout your entire swing. This helps improve aim and accuracy of your throws.

Once your stance is in order your focus should be on your swing. Begin by stepping forward with your lead foot, followed by the other. During these steps you want to be swinging your ball backwards. Step again to your lead foot and begin bringing the ball forward. As you step and plant your other leg (to retain balance and stop before the foul line), release your ball, while aiming at the center dot of your lane.

Timing is the key to proper release. Letting go too early could hit off target or not have enough momentum to take down all the pins. Releasing too late would have equally unproductive effects. The optimal point of release is when you feel the most gravitational pull during your forward swing.

While releasing, you should keep your wrist relaxed. You also always want to keep your eyes on the pins, as well as your shoulders square to the foul line. All of these factors play into the accuracy of your throws. You can simply rely on luck to bring you a few strikes here and there.

If you desire to become a better bowler, you should learn how to bowl a strike consistently by practicing this technique.
