Before you throw away that metal box in frustration, you might want to try a few ways to boost computer speed. Here are some tips you can follow to improve the performance of your computer:

Disk Clean Up and Deleting Duplicate Files.
Access your files and look for duplicate files. Duplicates take up much of the space of your computer. Also, you might want to delete unnecessary files. Cleaning up your computer is very important in making sure that it works the way that it is designed to work.

Disk clean up lets you have more free space in your hard drive. This is especially important when you're running low on memory space. You can do disk clean up anytime you want. Go to programs on your start tab. Choose Accessories and then system tools. Click on disk clean up. Check the files that you want to delete and start the process by clicking OK. Make sure to delete temporary Internet files. It can pile up without you noticing when you are surfing the Internet all the time.

Defragmentation
Defragmenting your computer at least once a month is a good practice, especially if you want to keep your computer in proper condition. Installing and un-installing programs make opening files takes a long time and computer processes slower. Defragmentation places files in particular spaces so that you can access programs and files faster.

To access defragmenter, click on the start tab, access your programs then go to accessories. Once you've opened the accessories folder, go to system tools and click on the disk defragmenter icon. Click the analyze button. Analyzing your disk drives will let you know which hard drive you need to defragment first. It will also tell you how much time is needed to complete the defragmentation process. When the analysis is done, click the defragment button to start the procedure. Defragment your hard drive during a time when you won't be needing your computer, as running defragmenter while doing other things will make the process run longer. It takes at least about a couple of hours for this process to complete. A good idea is to run disk defragmenter a few hours before bed time. By the time you are ready to go to bed, the process should be done.

Optimizing The Start Up Process
Unnecessary programs that start once you boot your computer makes starting up very slow. Make sure that you only run important programs during start up. To make changes on start up programs, go to programs on your start tab. Locate the start folder. Remove unnecessary programs that run on start up. Doing this will only prevent the programs from running on start up. If you want to delete the programs permanently on your hard drive, go to your control panel, click on add or remove program and choose the programs that you want to delete.

There are numerous ways you can do to boost your computer speed. The tips mentioned above are just some of the things you can try to do. If your computer's speed doesn't improve, you might want to consult a professional that may be able to help you check on any problems in your computer.
