Before you become a video game tester, there is more to it than meets the eye. A real tester who is a professional through and through, has been through an uphill task with loads of patience as it takes a lot to gain valuable experience. You have to put in a lot of hard work, but you get paid to play the games. But, you should not think that playing is all that is required as testing is a major part of video game tester jobs.

Apart from the skills, you need to take video game testing seriously. If you do not take the job seriously, then you could risk losing out on a very gainful employment. There are many video testers who think that the job is easy and does not require much application of mind and intellect. On the contrary, there is lots of hard work involved in the stuff and you need to perform well to become a video tester.

Instead of playing only, you will have to fill out reports, answering a host of questionnaires and responding to queries. True to your job requirement, you will be involved in video testing much more than just video playing. For any gamer worth his or her salt, it is a dream job. If you want to excel professionally, you need to have loads of patience and do a lot of hard work as well.

Your best bet would to start off networking with other programmers, specialists, game artists, developers and customer support personnel. Your main aim would be to get as many referrals and references as possible. The more networking you can do, the easier it would be for you to make waves. The skill in networking can make up for a slightly jaded looking resume. After all, you do not get paid to play video games.

Showcase your talent

In video game testing, you need not have to check out classified ads and newspapers hoping to find offers. Game developers coast to coast are always in need of video game testers and they want to look for the person with the right type of skills. Even if game developers require testers, they do not always put up ads.

For game testing, there is no shortage of professionals and the developers know very well they will be sought out. Your skill will show once you make a strong case in your application. You may have to spend lots of time on video games.

You have to create a very strong impression and wear your skills on your sleeves. With all kinds of gaming consoles and a wide array of games under your belt, there is no way you can be ignored by developers when they set about searching for the right tester. Beta testing is an external user testing.

You will be identifying weak points in the products of companies and working with software and electronics. You may have to work with something for hours during beta testing.
