How To Become A Motivational Speaker

By:

Ah, the sound of applause and the encouraging approval of the crowd. These are just the extras of having a successful motivational speaking engagement but one of the best things about it, after the accolades, is the big fat paycheck the speaker receives.

Successful motivational speakers are not only highly regarded but also financially privileged. The more they speak, the more popular they get and the more they can charge for their services. They may speak for a few hours, but sometimes they only need to speak for several minutes but they are compensated handsomely.

Do they have something special which we don't have?

Maybe maybe not. Motivational speakers, especially ones with flourishing careers, have life encounters that equipped them with knowledge worth sharing with other people. They are exceedingly well-paid teachers of life.

But interestingly enough, some motivational speakers don't really have life-defining experiences. Some are just savvy with words, with enviable marketing genius. They just know what people need and want to hear. Experienced or not, good motivational speakers inspire people to act.

Although drastic life encounters are a big help in achieving a successful motivational speaking career, it is not essential. The key to achieve a well-paying career in speaking is mostly about marketing. Motivational speakers are business persons.

Professional speakers, by trade, are selling their skill in moving people to success. As far as experiences go, they are just a part of a speaker's marketing toolbox. It is easier to sell yourself as a speaker if you have been down and managed get back on top. Credibility sells, it is fact.

Credibility through experience is not enough however. There are other factors involve. First of course, is the actual skill in public speaking. No matter how rich your experiences are, if you are not able to articulate your message, you will not be able to inspire your audience. Along with eloquence, humor and wits can go a long way in this business. Poor display of speaking skills will not bring in potential clients.

Then, there is the promotional aspect. It is not only how well you speak on the stage, it is also how well you connect with people off the stage. In any business, networking and negotiation skills are vital. In every speaking appointment you can get, is also an opportunity to expand your prospects with referrals.

If you are proficient and effective as a speaker, then networking should be easy but if you're a so-so speaker, networking skills must be honed to perfection. The industry of professional speaking is an intricate art of blending authentic mass communication skills, wisdom, and marketing expertise.

In summary, to become a successful motivational speaker, you must be aware of the vital aspects needed to achieve your professional goals.

These are:

Knowledge: wisdom, usually but not limited to life experiences
Marketing: the aptitude to sell oneself as a speaker
Speaking Skills: the actual ability of delivering an effective speech
