How To Beat The Winter Blues By Going Toboggan Riding

You probably are dreading the coming winter season like a lot of folks are, and you rightfully have good reason to do so. There just is nothing that is as nice as warmth, which we get during the spring and summer months. Spring and summer provides us with so many activities that we often don't even think about the exercise we are getting from it all. Such things as mowing the lawn, trimming the bushes and scrubs, cleaning the deck, or even power washing the sides of the house, all provide some great exercise.

A great activity that you can enjoy throughout the winter is taking a toboggan ride. A toboggan ride is like sledding only more intense and exciting. A toboggan is like a very long sled, that is flat and has a front that curves up and back. Some toboggans have hand rails on them, but most do not. A few years back toboggans were mostly made from wood, and the good quality ones still are, but now you an buy them made from plastic, the trouble with these plastic ones, is they often deteriorate after a little rough use, or one season.

When I was a child and a teen, I used to love going on toboggan rides. My Dad owned a huge field, which had quite a steep hillside on it, across from our home. This field was completely cleared of trees and debris, because in the summer it was used for growing hay. When the winter snow got pretty deep and packed down, my cousins who lived on the other side of the hill, would walk down to our place, and we would all go riding the toboggan together down the steep hill.

We would help drag the toboggan by it's rope up to the top of the snowy hill, then we all climbed on, there were 3 or 4 of us, that could fit snuggly at one time. Then we would wrap our arms around the person in front of us, and go flying down the hill. The toboggan went almost straight down the hill, whichever way it was pointed when we took off, unlike some sleds which you can steer with your feet. We took turns switching places because one thing about these toboggans with the curved up fronts was, the snow would come flying over, and it would literally cover the person that was sitting in the front.

If you own property with a large cleared hill or steep field, you might want to invest in a nice quality toboggan, a good one will last a lifetime. Riding a toboggan is great fun for one person, or the entire family, and it's a great way to help beat the winter blues.
