TOOLS FOR THE DYSLEXIC:LEARNING TO NAVIGATE THROUGH A NON-DYSLEXIC WORLD WHEN YOU VIEW THE WORLD COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY:
Even though I understood biological and chemical principles, the way I thought about math problems so differently that it made it hard for me to communicate my thoughts about a given topic with my chemistry or biology professors. As though adulthood is not difficult enough, dyslexia adds a dimension of complexity to the lives of those who suffer with it. I am hoping you will find my story to be helpful for you. In addition, teachers have to "revamp" their classroom routine to help dyslexic students and when they have a "schedule" to keep, they are anything but interested and motivated to help students learn. Dyslexia tends to touch all aspects of the life of the person who is suffering from it. If you are struggling with your major in college, I suggest thinking about how you look at the world, and researching other majors that will reflect exactly how you think. If you were never this lucky, this article is for you because I believe I am a dyslexic and never had the opportunity to meet a caring teacher who was dedicated to helping me learn. This is a sad truth of our educational system as many teachers will not work harder to help all of their students.
PUBLIC SPEAKING:
This can be an extremely embarrassing mistake to make when speaking with an employer, someone you're interviewing with or new people you just met. What I have found is the simple task of thinking carefully about what I am about to say will help me compile my words together getting the right pronoun or verb tense in my mind before I start to speak. If you find that you are thinking about things too fast, and thus stating something too quickly and fall into a flip flopping mistake, this is a tool that you should use. When conveying a message to another person or boss, and you tend to have a problem with conveying the correct message.
VERBAL AGREEMENTS:
If the individual is still working for the company, you shouldn't be using a past tense anywhere in this sentence. While you must be cognoscente of pronoun usage, you must also be cognoscente of proper verb agreements. If you find that you do this, you need to figure out a way to catch yourself so you do not convey an improper message about who you are.
WRITING:
Make sure you check everything you write carefully. I hope you will find e-mail easier for you when communicating with others. In this fast paced business world of today, e-mails are usually answered quickly and efficiently, so you mustn't worry that your business pace will be slowed down in any way because of it.
TAKING STANDARDIZED TESTS:
How did you answer them? Did you miss what the question was asking? Did you get confused over the wording? Did you simply forget to answer it? You must figure out what happened with the test before you can learn the tools to take standardized tests in a successful fashion. Once you have picked the appropriate answer, fill in the circle on your answer sheet. 21. The following will be an example of how to do this. INSTRUCTIONS:
I find that my flip flopping nature has not changed, but with the tools I have put in place, I have been able to figure out quickly what I did wrong to fix it efficiently. I once bought a futon from a name brand company and couldn't figure out how to put it together no matter how many times I read the instructions and looked at the pictures. Come up with a game plan when dealing with standardized testing and always reread the instructions so you know what is being asked for you. My struggles with dyslexia have seemed overwhelming, especially during the times in my life where I didn't know what I was experiencing was called. When handling standardized tests, you must remember to analyze where you go wrong while taking standardized tests. Remember that learning how to live with dyslexia will be life long. Also, looking at a map before you venture out will also prove to be useful and even more helpful is a GPS unit to read directions to you as you drive.
