How To Be A Restrained Social Drinker

By:

A lot of people think of themselves as social drinkers when in fact they actually drink quite heavily. Just drinking on social occasions does not make you a social drinker if you drink to excess.

You may not be the alcoholic getting drunk by yourself in front of the TV on a Monday night. But if you cannot compose yourself at social events you are not just a mere social drinker.

Being restrained as a social drinker is to key to demonstrating that you are a person with poise and class.

It is socially acceptable to get slaughtered at high school and college. But you don't have to. Just make sure you don't carry that kind of drinking culture into your post college years. It stops being cool.

Don't Choose A Cheap Drink: Like it or not people will judge you on the type of drink you consume. You don't have to select top shelf. But choosing bottom of the line conveys the message that all you want is the maximum amount of drinks for as little money as possible. Choosing a classier drink shows you are drinking to enjoy not drinking to get plastered.

Consider Your Company Before You Drink: The social situation determines exactly how much you can consume to socially acceptable levels. If it is just your mates you can let loose a little more. They probably don't want to see you in hospital even if you think it is a badge of honor. But you don't have to walk on eggshells around them. Drinking in front of your workmates, boss and parents requires a larger degree of restraint. Just make sure you can choose the situation appropriately and don't just have one standard drinking mode.

Keep Your Emotions In Check: Just because you have loosened up enough to start talking about the dark stuff you normally keep bottled up inside doesn't mean everybody else is ready to hear it. Don't drink to drown your sorrows. Fix your sorrows elsewhere and drink for enjoyment. People don't want to hear about your problems in that situation. If you have an issue hit up a trusted friend in a private an appropriate situation.
