How To Avoid Having To See Whiplash Solicitors About An Injury Claim

By:

You've almost certainly heard quite a bit of talk over the last few weeks and months about whiplash solicitors, and the concept of making a whiplash personal injury claim. Unfortunately one of the main reasons why this area has been so much in the news is because of the very few people who have been fraudulently abusing the system by staging fake accidents and then claiming damages.

The sad truth is that whiplash is no laughing matter and definitely no game. Those people who have ever suffered from whiplash will know only too well just how debilitating it is. For those who have yet to experience a whiplash personal injury it's easy to assume that the symptoms are limited to a slightly sore neck for a few days, but this is often very far from the truth. Although the symptoms of whiplash can take up to a day to appear, there is a whole list of possible symptoms to expect, including loss of feeling in arms and hands, nausea, dizziness, depression, headaches, memory loss and blurred vision.

These symptoms can very easily ruin a person's normal day to day life, resulting in them being unable to look after their responsibilities, unable to work, and unable to take care of their children. All of this means a loss of income, and many additional expenses. In some cases the symptoms of whiplash may last just a few days, but in many cases every year people are left experiencing these problems for weeks or even months. In a few cases the symptoms never fully disappear.

This is why making a whiplash personal injury claim is so important, because it's easy to overlook the long term financial implications of such an injury. After all, you've been paying your insurance premiums for years, and almost certainly anyone involved in an accident which resulted in them suffering from whiplash were the innocent party. Whiplash is usually caused through rear end shunts. You may have stopped in a queue of traffic, or at a pedestrian crossing, All it takes is for someone to not notice you've stopped, and run into you, for your life to change for a good long time.

It doesn't even take much speed either. In fact statistically most whiplash injuries are actually caused by quite slow, seemingly innocuous and unimportant accidents, with speeds anywhere from about 5 miles per hour to 12 miles per hour - about the speed of a jogger. The soft tissues in the neck however are very delicate, and this fact, coupled with the fact that your head is quite heavy, and when you're stopped or moving only very slowly you tend to be fairly relaxed means that it doesn't take a great deal for your head to be thrown back into the head rest.

But this is where it gets interesting, because in many cases the head rest doesn't actually help - it hinders. Now, don't start ripping out the headrests, because whilst they may make a whiplash injury more likely, they're achieving this by helping to prevent very much more serious neck injuries. But statistics show that only around 25% of drivers bother to check that the head restraint is in the right position. If the head restraint is several inches behind your head then it stands to reason your head has farther to be jerked back, and will rebound with even more energy.

So if you've been injured and need to make a whiplash personal injury claim then speak to professional whiplash solicitors as soon as possible. But if you haven't yet had such an injury, make sure that next time you get in your car you check to make sure the head restraint is just behind the back of your head, and not half way to the back seat.
