How The Travel Industry Promotes Australia To The World

By:

Australia has long been a hot spot for travellers - with the travel industry having promoted it for many years as a place offering sun and stunning outdoors locations. But what has made this continent so easy to promote?

The travel industry has grown and grown over recent decades, to the extent where it is usually ranked 5th or 6th among all industries. Over this period a great many hitherto unexplored locations have risen to prominence and have become very popular holiday destinations. Australia is no exception, as people from across the globe continue to visit it, despite the recession.

There has been a long history of British people going on holiday in Australia - this is in part because of the strong historic connections with the continent. Many people moved over to Australia after World War Two, and as a result many relatives went over to visit, thereby creating a bigger market for holidays in the area.

As anyone in the travel industry knows, the cost of flying to Australia is substantial, so it is not always an easy sell - especially in the global downturn. However, the opportunity to explore this land means that people are still keen to fork out. Usually they choose to go for a long time, to make the expensive air ticket worth it. Although many people stay for a two week holiday, this is deemed too short by others.

One of the main attractions as touted by the travel industry is Australia's east coast. This region offers a bewildering array of attractions, in particular beaches. The surfing in this region is world renowned, and thousands of surfers and beach lovers visit such places as the Gold Coast, and Noosa (a famous surfing town).

In the town of Bundaberg (where the famous Bundaberg rum factory is located), there is the opportunity to see turtles along the coast. The travel industry really pushes scuba diving too, as the Great Barrier Reef offers unparalleled - there's nothing like diving in crystal clear waters, surrounded by stunning coral formations and colourful fishes. Sea cucumbers, reef sharks and a bewildering range of other sea creatures make this area an easy location to sell for the travel industry.

It is a big part of British youth and student culture to take a year or two off and go to Australia. Most people work whilst in Oz; either in the cities (of which 4 have over 1 million people) or in one of the many farms in areas such as Queensland. Pineapples, peaches, tomatoes, sweet potatoes - all these and more grow in the brilliant Aussie sunshine.

Often, it is Japanese and Koreans who occupy these jobs because of their work ethic - however European travellers also do the work. Farm work is popular because it offers a great deal of flexibility, and often pays a little more than normal urban jobs.

The travel industry has a great many ways to market this continent, ensuring visitors will continue to flock here year after year.
