How Simple Spills Can Cause Water Damage

When spills set in they can cause many damages like stains, water damage, mold, and odors. You can get spills from the kids, when you wash dishes, baths, and many other ways. If you cause a spill you need to clean it up and get the area dried so the damage will not set in the walls or the floor. Spills can seep through the floor board and get under them causing mold to grow. If you spill water by a wall, it can it gets in the cracks so you need to try and soak up as much of the liquid as possible so it will not cause water damage.

If you can not get all of the water up, you may have to pull up the baseboard to get to it before it soaks in. Do not nail it down until the area is dry so the area will not be effected by wetness or any water damages. If your kids spill their drinks on the carpet, you will need to soak it up with a towel, step on it until it soaks up all of the moisture. You can invest in a little carpet machine that cleans up spills and will dry the carpet well so no water damage can set in the carpet or the floor.

If you have a big spill you will want to pull the carpet and the padding up and back. This is so the sub-floor or hardwoods underneath the carpet can dry as well and so the water will not seep through the cracks in the floor. If you do not pull up the carpet moisture can set in both things and you will have mold growth in your home. That will make it unsafe for your family and their health because of the mold and what it can cause.

If you have spills on the counters, wipe them up so the water can not soak into any cracks that might be present and cause the wall to be damaged as well. If a spill gets in wood that is not protected very well with a water sealer, it can cause the wood to rise and become bumpy. It can also cause mold spots to form over time if the damages have set in too much. If kids are in the bath tub and they are playing, they can cause water to spill all over the floor and it can it seep through the cracks around the tub or tub surround if there are any. If there is a vent on the floor, water can get into there as well and you can have mold grow in there. So you will want to wipe up all the water off the floors and make sure there is no wetness anywhere.
