How Self Storage In Newcastle Made My Temporary Move Abroad Easy

By:

I have been an engineer for many years and when I recently decided to set up my own consultancy firm rather than stay working for a company with an uncertain future, I felt it was the best choice I'd made in a long time. The job offers came in thick and fast, from small local jobs through to my latest contract - overseeing the assembly of a water filtration system in Africa. The offer was for a two year contract and one of the considerations I had to make was what to do with the belongings I wasn't taking. Although I live in a nice area, I didn't really feel like leaving all my possessions in my Newcastle home so I examined some storage options.

The decision to take the contract wasn't fully made at this point; the money was good and I felt like I'd actually be doing something worthwhile, but two years working away from my friends and family was a long time and I wasn't really sure what to do about my house and all my possessions. On one hand I felt it would be a waste of money to keep paying the mortgage and utilities on a house I wouldn't be living in for two years, but on the other hand selling a house is hard enough, let alone doing so on a limited time scale and selling all my possessions as well. Though the idea of saving the money on the mortgage was a nice thought, I didn't really want to come back to absolutely nothing after two years in Africa so when a friend suggested a self storage company near Newcastle Metro Station, I was very grateful to have a third option.

After having a look at their website and seeing the range of room sizes they offered, I really felt like I'd found the perfect solution to the question of what to do with my belongings if I decided I would take the contract - I would completely empty the house and store everything I didn't need to throw away or sell so as not to entice burglars, but I would keep the mortgage on the house up. I'd lived there for a long time and I wasn't particularly keen on selling it and being homeless when I returned from working, though I did notify the gas, electricity and phone companies and had all the utilities disconnected.

A friend promised to look in on the place from time to time so I would have the peace of mind that all my belongings were safely in my storage unit and my house wasn't going to be filled with squatters. This helped me make my decision and I decided to take the contract.

With the reasonable prices I was paying on my Newcastle storage unit, it really felt like the perfect way of giving me peace of mind while I worked away from home and I would recommend this option to anyone who will be doing the same.
