How Scented Candles Can Light Up Your Life

Scented candles can create ambience for a variety of settings; whether you're planning a romantic evening for two, relaxing in the bath or trying to avoid having any unwanted creepy crawlies crashing your barbeque.

Whenever one of our well loved TV characters wants to propose to someone, they place candles on every available surface. You don't necessarily have to be proposing to someone to do this, but be warned, the overly romantic woman might think that that's what you're getting at! So if you're not serious, just stick with a bottle of white wine and a film. For those who are more serious about their other half fill the room with light scents of patchouli or rosewood, said to be aphrodisiacs, to create the ideal amorous atmosphere.

Every now and then, women need to unwind in a warm bath brimming with bubbles; add to this tranquil vibe by placing a few scented candles in the bathroom. Aromas such as lavender promote relaxation and, if you choose to have the bath just before you go to bed, lavender also aids a restful night's sleep. Use candles that come in jars for this purpose rather than pillar candles as the jars will rest easily and safely on the surfaces.

As soon as summer starts the barbeques come out, but there's nothing more frustrating than preparing the feast of the five thousand only to have insects come and land on the food. Citronella candles act as a natural insect repellent and mean that you won't have to worry about any aerial attacks or anything crawling up the table leg. Place several citronella candles around the area you want to eat in and you'll be able to eat your meal in peace.

If you use your imagination a bit, candles can be the ideal gift. It's often difficult to find the perfect anniversary or wedding gift that's romantic without being tacky. Buy them a picnic basket and place in it two napkins, two candle holders and two tapered candles, choose a variety of foods to put in. This will encourage the romantic side of the couple and they'll enjoy a loving picnic courtesy of you.

Finally, candles can simply be used for decorative purposes around the home. It's advisable to not place scented candles in the kitchen as the scent can interfere with the taste of food when cooking. In lounge areas however, scented candles can create the perfect atmosphere to relax with a good book or to simply watch a film in.
