How Parents Can Get Two Vacations For The Price Of One

By:

These days a married couple is pretty fortunate if they can afford one vacation for the entire family when they have kids, much less be able to afford a private vacation just for the two of them. One vacation a year is becoming a stretch for most family budgets and it is important that you make the absolute most of the time and money you have available to you. These days it is also more common for families to take only a one week vacation instead of the two weeks that they might have been able to afford in the past. So, how do you use that one week to spend vacation time with your kids and still have alone time too?

This is easy. Split the time in half of course! Take four days and plan a activities for yourselves and the kids together. You might go camping or take road trips to visit state parks. These kinds of family adventures can be much less expensive than purchasing plane tickets and staying at some upscale hotel. Kids are kids and as long as they are with you spending quality time together, hopefully that will make them happy. However, you must be sure to add things like swimming into the mix. Kids love water parks and you can spend a whole day at one fairly inexpensively. Pack lunches instead of eating out. Save the fancy restaurants for the few days that you and your spouse are going to have together.

It will be necessary to have a sitter for the kids while you are on your trip. No matter if you only book a less expensive motel for a few days in your very own home town, it will still give you the alone time you both probably need. If you can get a friend or family member to sit with the kids at your house for free, that is all the better. Even if you have to pay out for a sitter, having them at your home will make it more convenient for you and the kids. There will be no packing up their belongings and taking them somewhere else. They will be at home in their own beds with their own things.

The key to any good vacation is in the planning. Make sure you have all of the little details taken care of well in advance if possible. Make sure you have budgeted your money well with a little left over in case of unforeseen emergencies. A vacation that is riddled with problems is no vacation. Once you have ended your vacation for this year, go ahead and start planning your vacation for next year and you will have plenty of time to get everything just right!
