How Oil Spills Do Damage To Water And Animals

By:

Oil spills are not uncommon these days and can be very dangerous for the water and land around it. They are dangerous to animals both on land and at sea. It can release toxins in the water that will affect them adversely and it can kill them or eventually cause deformities in future generations. Oil has very high levels of dangerous chemicals in it and these chemicals can or will get to the bottom of the ocean floor and affect it to. When oil spills, it will spread out, and affect whatever is in its path. The water will be thick and full of black goop and it is very hard to clean up. It can get into the lungs of the animals, coat the wings and bodies of birds and kill both them and fish or cause them to get sick.

It can effect the environment, damaging everything that is in the area because it is polluting it. The pollution can stay there a very long time, even after the oil is cleaned up. Most of the time, when oil spills happen, the ship is too close to the shallow part of the water, and the rocks hit the bottom of the ship. When this happens, the rocks will cut the bottom and the oil starts to pour out. Sometimes when these oil spills happen, whales and other mammals are beached and covered in oil. They may be washed to the shore and dead due to the oil killing them.

It can also do damage the land, hurting the animals on it as well. This has happened before by people digging up oil wells, and the oil spills out all over the ground affecting it. The oil can get into the feathers, mouths, and noses of the animal, killing them. Many animals have been lost due to this and many areas have had to be cleaned thoroughly to get the oil out. The oil will get on plants, trees, rocks, in the soil, and many other places. It will leave a mess and it can take days or even years to clean up.

Everything will have to be cleaned before permanent damage is done and it affects lives around it. Professionals will have to be out there in shifts just to get the oil out of there. They will have to use something to get up the oil, something that soaks it up. They are trained for this, knowing how and what to do. Oil spills are only one of the many things that can and does destroy our environment.
