If you use oil lamps, you will need to be careful because they can easily cause a fire. Oil lamps have been around for many years. People had used them to see in the dark, for light in their houses, and they also used them for street lights. The oil in the lamp is what makes the lamp light up and it burns fast. If it is knocked over, it will do lots of damage. Some oil lamps have to be pumped before you use it, but you have to watch how much you pump it up because it can explode, and the damages will be serious.

Do you know how fast oil can burn? If it gets knocked over, the oil will get on everything and the fire will spread. It will grow fast and it will get bigger and bigger. When it hits the ground, you can see the fire spread. It is like water when it runs because it flows fast. It can burn curtains in seconds and it can burn through your house in minutes. That is how fast it can burn your house down. If you touch the outside of the lamp, especially the glass, it will burn your finger, so if you have oil lamps keep your kids away from them. Put them somewhere were they can't get to it.

If the lamp has not been used in a while, then you need to get it checked out before you use it because there can be a crack in it, and you will need to replace the oil. Do not use old oil because it can be very dangerous. You also need to change the wick because it could fall apart. It is a safety hazard to have any antique oil lamps to have in your home due to the fire and the damage it can cause. They are only used to collect, and they are also for show. They can make your house look nice because they come in all different styles and in all different sizes, too.

You can use the newer ones because they are improved and they are good for when there is a power outage. They are also used in culler when there is a bad storm like a tornado, or if you are camping you can use them for light in your tent. Do not put them around anything fabric or around any debris. That is how fires can be started, and you have to be very careful when you use them. You also need to read the directions on how to use them.
