How Much To Tip Your Courier Driver

By:

Many times the business of tipping causes people to become very uncomfortable. We are uncertain of what is an appropriate amount to tip people in any capacity, such as waiters, cab drivers, and of course, our delivery or courier drivers. It is important that you check with your Chicago courier service before you try to tip your courier driver however, as some companies do have policies which prohibit tipping. If you tried to tip a driver under such circumstances, it could cause an embarrassing situation for either you or the driver, or both, or even worse, if the driver accepts the tip, an offhand comment to an account representative could cause serious trouble for the driver better left avoided. Simply finding out up front about the policy of your courier company is the easiest way to avoid any kind of faux pas.

Simply tip your courier driver what you think is fair if tipping is allowed and if you feel it is appropriate. As in most cases of any kind of gratuity, people are always happy to receive most anything, and the act itself is appreciated. Courier drivers do make a decent wage, so unlike people who work in restaurants or bars, or deliver pizza, they are not reliant on tips to form the lion's share of their income. This makes it a much different situation than those where you must be concerned because you realize that a person's livelihood is dependent on how well they are tipped by customers like you.

If you use a scheduled delivery service and are making shipments on a regular basis, many people find a bonus to be preferable to a tip on every delivery. Many companies instead decide to provide their regular courier driver with a Christmas or yearend bonus as a kind of a thank you for their hard work and dedication. This is also a perfectly acceptable method of showing your appreciation for good service, but again, this is the kind of thing that must be checked with the courier company first in order to avoid any kinds of complications down the road. Sometimes, drivers may even be unaware of their company's policies and may accept a bonus or a tip, totally unaware that such an action could get them disciplined or even fired, so it is up to you to ensure that the parent company is okay with any such action on your part.
