How Much Should A Tree Service Cost?

By:

Unfortunately tree services aren't like some other businesses. They can't offer a flat rate for a service call because of the nature of their work.

Every job for a tree service is different because every tree is different. A simple pruning job on a very tall elm or pine can cost several hundred dollars because special equipment might have to be used. The equipment will be needed for the workers to safely reach the taller limbs on the trunk.

More complex jobs such as removing a dead, dying or unwanted pine or getting rid of a stump can cost quite a bit more. So can even some fairly simple tasks such as cutting up and hauling away the trunk of a fallen willow.

Even hauling off deadwood often requires several workers, a truck and a number of chain saws. Safely downing a big tree such as an old oak or elm will cost more.

No Rate Quote
This means that a tree service can not quote rates over the phone or elsewhere for all of its services. Instead for many tasks such a company will have to come out look over your situation and give you an estimate.

The reason for this is that it simply would not be fair or practical to set prices for certain jobs without seeing what they involve. Fortunately, an experienced professional should be able to tell you what a job should cost by simply looking at a tree or trees.

By giving an estimate professionals can ensure that you get the lowest price possible. They can also give an accurate price so there will be no nasty surprises in the bill.

Always be skeptical of any firm that gives a flat rate for work such as removing dead trees. There is simply no way that an honest and reputable business could charge a flat rate for such work.

Instead the best way for a person to save money is to have a number of different services come out and get a quote from each. This way you can see which service is the cheapest.
You can also look over the person who comes out and decide whether you want that individual or their employees on your property.

Treating the estimate as a job interview can help you make an informed decision about which business to hire to work around your home.
