The amount of protein you consume is simply down to your lifestyle. People that workout at the gym and perform high intense workouts will require alot more protein than your average joe.

If your one of these people striving to pack on the lean muscle mass then you will want to have a high daily protein intake. This is because protein helps repair your muscles after you have damaged them in the gym.

So how much protein should I take to build muscle mass?

You want to aim to consume at least 1 gram of protein for each kilogram of bodyweight per day. The ideal amount for someone that is working out 3-5 times a week in the weights room is 1.5grams.

The calculation:
Calculate your weight in kilograms x 1.5.
E.g.
70kg x 1.2 = 105 grams of protein per day.

Yes! Too much protein can be very harmful. Your body can only absorb a certain amount of protein per day. Too much protein can put a big strain on your internal organs as they try to digest it.
