How Moisture Analysis Instruments Are Used In Different Industries

By:

One of the instruments used to measure the content of moisture in a substance is known as a moisture analyzer. These devices are used in a variety of industries ranging all the way from chemical preparation, food processing, construction, and pharmaceuticals.

A moisture analyser is a small instrument that is designed to be user friendly. Different companies manufacture these devices, but even though a variety of different companies make the moisture analyzer, the design is usually very similar in nature as well as its operation.

For the majority of people, it is really not a very big deal to have to put up with a little moisture. In fact, it is usually most welcomed in the form of a cool ocean mist, a soothing shower as well as a light spring rain. However, in a controlled environmental setting or some other laboratory environment, moisture is really not very welcome. In some instances, if there is the presence of too much moisture, havoc can be caused in different scientific experiments.

Many chemicals as well s other mixtures can be compromised when there is too much moisture present. Many products, no matter if they are organic or synthetic in nature, not only can experience strength but integrity degradation as well when there is too much moisture content present. Here is where a moisture analyzer comes into play. One of these devices measures and monitors moisture content in science laboratories, but is also used in a large number of other applications. A moisture analyzer may be used not only to measure the freshness of coffee but may also determine the composition of paint.

When a moisture analyzer is used, a sample is put inside of a small chamber. Housed inside of this chamber a computer records the sample's weight. After this is obtained, the sample is heated with a small device that is found within the moisture analyzer that has been made specifically for this purpose.

While the sample is being heated, the moisture analyzer periodically weighs the sample. Once the sample's measurement becomes constant, the user is informed and evaporation is now completed. When this process is completed, the sample's moisture content is computed by the moisture analyzer.

Different Types of Moisture Analysers

On-line moisture analyzers are used to accurately determine trace moisture content of gases. Analysis ranges and accuracy will vary depending upon which model is obtained from a high by volume as much as 2500 parts per million all the way down to less than 1 part per million.

Manual and electronic moisture analyzers are lightweight in nature and are designed for temporary or spot analysis installation. The electronic models of this device are powered by DC power, internal rechargeable batteries, or AC power.

There are also stationary moisture analysers for industrial as well as outdoor locations. These devices are provided in explosion proof and weather-protective enclosures as well as O.E.M. packaging. Accuracy and analyzer ranges will vary by model.
