How Middle Aged Men Should Dress

By:

Just because you are over the age of 40 doesn't mean that you should give up on fashion and style. In fact knowing how to dress in a way that suits your age, complexion, and body type is an art few men possess. This article gives some fashion guidance for men that are over the age of 40.

Color Choices
Men over 40 should realize that their body along with their hair and skin color has already changed. Because of this the colors in clothing also needs to change accordingly. It is imperative that the colors harmonizes with the complexion and give your skin a vigorous, healthy shine. If you are fair skinned and have lighter hair color we speak of a low contrast profile. This profile is best matched with low contrasting colors in shirts, suits and ties. Wearing a white dress shirt with black suit would be wrong in this case. Better suited would be a light gray suit and white dress shirt, or black suit and gray shirt. The contrast in clothing and complexion must be kept at a balance.

Dressing too Trendy
Men over the age of 40 should pay attention to the right fit of clothes. In addition clothes that are too trendy should be avoided. Instead clothes should be picked that are elegant, classy and slightly more on the mature side. This does not mean that men over 40 have to dress boring. Think of Goeorge Clooney or Tom Cruise.

Time for the T-Off
Older gentlemen, over the age of 60 that is, might have cut back on their hours at work, or might be retired altogether. Many of those men don't know how to transition from the suit and necktie look to an elegant but casual outfit. Instead they wear T-shirt, sweats and sandals.

Tip: Keep some elegance. Instead of your 2-piece suit jacket wear a blazer or sport coat. Wear collared dress shirts, and instead of tennis shoes wear loafers or moccasins.

Wear Flattering Clothes
Even with a great body, men over 40 should never feel inclined to show this off by wearing clothes that are too tight. Instead wear clothes that flatter your body type.

Finding your Style
Men over 40 who might need some help with style should visit their local mens store. Trying on different items and getting feedback from both family and store clerk will help. Having a direct comparison between different colors and tailoring will help you get a feel for what type of clothes, colors and styles look best on you.

What is most important is that you find joy in your clothing and that you wear them with confidence. Keep some of the advice mentioned above in mind, and you will be one well dressed fellow.
