How Mens Ties Are Made

By:

Neckties can be made in three ways. The first method is sewing the fabric on a regular sewing machine. However, neckties might be inflexible and difficult to knot due to upper and lower thread seams. Second method involves the LIBA machine. Here, the tie will be sewn with a single thread from the inside and will then be reverted to its original side. The third method is handmade. First, the tie is cut manually, brought to its correct form, secured with pins then finally sewn. The best ties are made from these two latter methods or a combination of the two.

Cutting the Fabric for Ties
If it is a single color fabric, a whole heap of sheets will be cut by the machine. While fabrics with pattern are being cut individually to make sure the intended design is achieved after the tie is sewn. Templates, which specify the length and width, are usually made of transparent plastic, to help the cutter make a precise cut.

Necktie Lining and Inlay
Depending on the yarn count and weight of the exterior fabric, the inlay could either be a cotton or wool. Bemberg (pure silk) will line the tip, or if not the same fabric as the tie. Experts call the latter self-tipping. The inlay should fit perfectly to ensure that neckties can be tied easily. The exterior material should be filled out exactly up to the rim. If it is too wide, the exterior fabric will crinkle while it will slip back and forth if it is too narrow.

Sewing Mens Ties
Assemble the tie parts by sewing them altogether at the back. This can be done by using LIBA. Handmade ties on the other hand will be secured with pins so as they will not be misplaced while sewing then locked manually using a slip stitch.

Slip stitch is distinguished by the rest thread, located at the inner side of the wide end of a tie. After that, the label and the keeper will be sewn behind the tie. The last step includes steaming, to take away possible pressure marks.

Jacquard or Print
There are numerous varieties of ties. These are the two main types Jacquard silk and printed silk.

Some manufacturers print designs onto a transparent silk fabric using the screen-printing technique. An image containing 10 colors will have ten different screens and would be printed ten times. One must be concise to prevent overlapping of colors. These ties are commonly made of lighter fabrics, suitable during summer.

Jacquard ties on the contrary, form its patterns during the weaving process using a variety of colored yarns. These ties are heavier, best worn during cold weather.

The choice of the type of necktie will always depend on ones personal style but majority choose to enjoy both styles.
