Due to the variability in individuals, everybody heals differently and at dissimilar rates. Predicting the result of laser eye treatment becomes complicated because of this. Even so, there are customary time frames and outcomes with
refractive surgery.
Transparent plastic shields will be situated over the eyes after the surgery. This is to minimize foreign bodies landing on the eyes from the surroundings and also to prohibit rubbing of the eyes. Patients can remove the shields the day after the procedure. Blurred vision is to be expected during this time. Driving is not safe even if shapes and shadows are visible enough so it's suitable to have someone drive you home.
The next day, once the shields are removed, vision will be unclouded. No longer will you need your eyeglasses just to picture in the distance or read well. As a matter of fact, your specs will make your vision worse! It might be observed the next day after having your laser eye treatment, sight will not be somewhat as clear as with glasses before the operation. The reason why this is so is because the eyes are still healing and perhaps experiencing dryness which is a usual side effect of the operation. Lubricants will be given by your ophthalmologist which you should consume on a repeated basis during the first month. Your sight should improve and comfort should be experienced if you regularly apply eye drops. Antibiotic eye drops are also needed to lessen the chances of eye infections as the eyes are still compromised after operation.
Your vision will minimally fluctuate within the first week. This is an expected effect and although sight is not constantly perfect, most people realize that vision enough for daytime driving, desk jobs and everyday tasks. The first week post-procedure, most individuals notice that they can effortlessly go back to work.
Glare in strong sunlight is also a regular symptom and sunglasses for outdoors usage are advised.
Another symptom is nighttime haloes. This is due to the pupils dilating in the dark, being larger than the section of the cornea which was operated on. Compared to night time, the pupils are smaller during the daytime which is why this is not an issue.
After one month, vision will be fairly fixed. This period will result in a reduced amount of reliance on antibiotics and lubricants. A number of patients observe their vision has improved in just a month's timeframe; it is not unusual, however, for the eyes to be slightly over or under corrected. If you have any residual Rx, it will be assessed at this point and if deemed unacceptable, there will be a follow-up laser eye treatment to correct this issue.
You will observe that your sight has totally stabilized within six months and nighttime glares should have decreased as well as the eyes recover. No longer will you need lubricants and antibiotics at this point.
Depending on your eyes, you may still require glasses after laser eye treatment. Lots of presbyopes require reading glasses but with advances in surgical procedures (see presbylasik), this is becoming less the case.
Your optometrist or ophthalmologist should be able to evaluate your eyes, give you beneficial ideas about how laser eye operation can work of you, and offer a more personalized prediction of the process.
