How Keyless Entry Can Help You Reduce Shrinkage At Work

By:

For a lot of us shrinkage is a big problem in our businesses. Not having the right level of security can cost us thousands of dollars a year in stolen goods or employees billing for hours they didn't work. You can easily get better control without having to spend a fortune to do so. Most of our businesses have stock rooms where products are stored and there are keys that the managers or employees have to get into this room. With a standard mechanical lock you have no real way of knowing who was entering these rooms and unless you have restricted keys you can't stop people form making copies of those keys. There are a ton of features in a keyless entry system such as UCA's Eternity Locks that will change the way you secure your business.

The main thing that you need to get under control is your keys. If previous or current employees have a second key cut you could be in trouble. An example of this would be as such. In a restaurant situation if a bartender had a key cut for a liquor room you now have a problem because whomever received the key has access and you have no idea what key was used to enter the room and when it happened. If you switch over to a lock with a keypad or an iButton that has an audit trail then this is never again going to be a problem. Locks like these record who has entered the room and at what time they did so. If you give an iButton or a code to an employee and tell them that the key is recorded for them and only them then nine times out of ten it will be handled with greater care. You will no longer see people lending keys to others to get in a particular room once they know that they are audited and responsible for anything that happens when that key is being used. Not only have you just made your employee hold onto their key a bit tighter but you have instant accountability. In they event that something does happen in said room you have the ability to go to your PC and see what has happened to this lock up until that moment. You will have a record of the employees name and what time they entered the room so when you approach them you will have the facts. Another key point about the audit trail is if you have the login/out sheet behind a lock and an employee keeps leaving early and doesn't sign out for that time you will also have a record of that. Make it clear to your staff and I believe you will find that they are far more punctual in the work place.

Another major feature is Shift Timing. If you have an employee that comes in between 8am and 5pm then you can set their code or iButton to only allow them access to the lock between those hours or any hours you deem for them! You never have to worry about anyone getting in a room when they are not working or not allowed in there. It is as simple as that. If they try to gain access after they aren't allowed the lock will record it and tell you that they were denied access.

If an employee is no longer with your company then you just remove their code or key from the lock and they no longer have access so it no longer matters if they keep their key or not. If you get the key back you can now just change the name attributed to it to the new owner and carry on as if nothing had ever happened.

Just having these simple features will definitely make a difference in your day to day business and save you thousands upon thousands of dollars a year if used correctly.
