How Does Tca Chemical Peel Works?

By:

Tricholoracetic acid (TCA) chemical peel is most commonly opt by most patients since the depth of the treatment can be adjusted according to individual needs. Generally, it is effective in treating fine facial wrinkles, blemishes, age spots and superficial acne scarring. As compare with deep chemical peel, the chemical solutions does not penetrate that deep into the skin.

The depth of the TCA chemical peel treatment can be adjusted according to the concentration of the peel agents being used. Normally, chemical concentration usually ranges from 15 to 50%, with the stronger concentrations meant for deeper skin imperfections. TCA chemical peel treatment is performed on out-patient basis and takes around 20 minutes to an hour.

After the peeling chemicals is applied on the skin, a burning sensation which lasts about two to ten minutes will be experienced. Don't be worry with that as the dermatologist will give pain killers to minimize the pain or discomfort. The desired depth of the treatment depends on how long the chemical agent is left on the skin. Upon achieving the depth, the peel agent is then neutralized by using iced saline.

Next, the skin is applied with oil-based or steroid ointment to protect the skin from drying. In the next couple of days, you will see a change in the colour of the treated layer( brown colour). Besides, the layer will become stiff and formed a layer of crusted skin. This is a sign that the new skin is healing and therefore you must NOT scratch or peel the crusted skin yourself.

This crusted layer will eventually flakes and peel off naturally within the next 4 to 7 days, revealing the new skin with a pinkish tone. After the skin has peeled off, you may resume your routine programs immediately and the pinkish tone will return to normal skin colour in a few weeks time.

The achieved results from TCA chemical peel can last 6 months up to 2 years if you maintain and protect the skin. Otherwise, you can go for repeat treatments every 6 to 12 months to maintain the improvements.
