Q: My question is in two parts. I am a self-taught PC user and small business owner, who would love for it to grow. I read everything I can get my hands on to make that happen. Recently, I came across an article that said, "If you put this ebook on your eBay About Me page you can make some money that way!"
How do I put the book on my About Me page? I have tried and tried with no luck and I am just about to give up! Second question: once I get the ebook there how can someone click on it and download the ebook? Submitted by Chris J.
A: Chris, what you're seeking to do is to put an affiliate link to the ebook order page, not a direct link to the ebook's download page itself. You want to get paid first, then let them download the book.
Both of these processes are controlled by the ebook's author, not you. As an affiliate it's your job to direct traffic to the ebook sales page then let the author's systems do the rest.
Be warned - according to eBay's policies governing About Me page content:
"The About Me page may not promote outside-of-eBay sales or prohibited items, nor may it contain links to commercial Web sites where goods from multiple sellers are aggregated by a common search engine."
That said, many eBayers sell items and collect opt-ins and link offsite on their About Me page and in my opinion they should be able to do so (lighten up eBay).
I'm not personally aware of anyone who has been banned from eBay for violating About Me page policies, but I'm sure someone has been punished for such crimes in the past, so proceed at your own risk.
If you are dead set on adding an ebook link to your About Me page here's the correct process:
Find an ebook that offers an affiliate program that allows you to refer customers and earn a commission for each sale. You can find thousands of ebooks on a variety of topics at
www.Clickbank.com Sign up for a free Clickbank account to get your unique Clickbank ID that will allow you to become an affiliate for all of the products listed on Clickbank.
Choose an ebook to sell. Once your Clickbank account is set up look through the Clickbank Marketplace to find ebooks that you think you can sell. You can sort by category or keyword. Once you find an ebook that interests you just click the "create hoplink" link shown next to the ebook's title to get your affiliate URL.
Get your affiliate link. Your affiliate URL will look like
http://yourID.sellerID.hop.clickbank.net." If your affiliate ID is "chrisj" and the seller's ID is "dealspot" the link would be
www.dealspotter.net/clickbank.php?hop=chrisj This is the URL you will embed in webpages or emails to direct traffic to the ebook sales page.
Direct traffic to the ebook sales page using your affilaite ID. The affiliate URL is the link you send customers to when they click and each time someone buys an ebook through your link you get a commission, typically 25% TO 75% of the purchase price less Clickbank fees.
Post your affiliate link on your About Me page and on your other websites. Once you have your unique affiliate URL you can add the link to other webpages. To add the link to your About Me page log into your eBay account and add the link either using the About Me Page Wizard or at the HTML level. Once you have the link in place click on it to make sure it is resolving at your affiliate webpage./li>
It sounds much more difficult than it really is. Just make sure you use the affiliate link exactly as you get it from Clickbank.
Here's to your success!
