How Do I Purchase Bullet Proof Vests And Bullet Proof Jackets?

Bullet proof vests are essential for armed officers. But these days (in places where it is legal), it is also used by conscious civilians who value their lives enough. Although these vests dates back to the time when Paleolithic man used animal skins while hunting. The more advanced versions of these vests were seen in the World War II. Since, then there has been no looking back with scientists coming up with new materials and the protection standards being upgraded. With the large number of choices, what should one consider while purchasing bullet proof jackets?

The first question, you must find the answer to is the type of protection you want. Are you an officer or just wearing it for protection? Obviously the type I is the least protective one. The type II-A is usually4 mm thick, which is thin and comfortable enough to be worn for long periods. The type II is usually 5 mm thick and is very concealable, comfortable and protects against blunt trauma. The III-A is known to be more rigid and around 10 mm thick that can resist uncommon pistol attacks. These varieties of Bullet proof vests i.e. type I, II-A, II and III-A works well against shotgun attack. But when required for high protection, like armor piercing rifles, the III-A and IV are thicker and more tensile bullet proof jackets that should be used.

The next lookout should be the right material. One gets confused with all materials from which it is prepared; a comparative study of these would help a lot. Bullet proof vests can be made of hard or soft materials. Obviously, the harder materials can withstand higher degree attacks but a civilian generally, can do with soft bullet proof jackets, which are much lighter and will suffice low intensity riffle attacks and stabbings.

DuPonts Kevlar is a very good quality man made synthetic and soft material, providing high heat resistance property. Other promising materials are Aramid, Spectra and Dyneema, which is an equally good material for Bullet proof vests. Ceramics is a hard material, which can provide higher protection. Metal bullet proof jackets are very strong and deflect the bullet easily and the person wearing it remains unharmed.

There are concealable jackets, which are worn inside your clothing. These Bullet proof vests are barely 6 mm thick and your clothes are good enough to conceal it. Although one should never wear very thin clothes, when putting on a safety vest as it may expose it and fail to serve the purpose. The metal plate ones generally require a very thick clothing to be worn above it. These vests are okay during the winter months but can be real pain in warmer seasons. It can make you feel warmer because of its heavy weight. Opting for bullet proof jackets is an intelligent option. These jackets can be easily worn on top of your clothing and can be taken off when desired. The rifle plates or soft safety materials are nicely secured underneath the jacket, which does not cause any sort of suspicion, while you are on the go.
