If you want to become a security analyst, it would help to get a CCNA or Cisco Certified Network Associate, certification from Cisco. With such a certification you will demonstrate the ability to operate, install, troubleshoot, and configure switched and medium-sized networks. The certification will also show you know how to implement and verify connections to remote sites in a Wide Area Network.

Those who want one of the security analyst jobs also need to have knowledge of IDS, TCP/IP, IDS data output management, programming, routers, firewall, and operating systems.

Those who are hired for such positions usually have at least a bachelor's degree. If the job is more complex, some employers require a graduate degree. Those wanting a job as a security analyst usually study information science, computer science, the physical sciences, engineering, and applied mathematics. Those who want such a job in business need a computer degree related to business, such as management information systems. Many employers seek job applications with a master's degree, with a specialization in information system.

Despite the usual need for a bachelor's degree or higher in obtaining one of the security clearance jobs, some who have an adequate amount of experience and have taken related college course can get jobs.
