How Can Marketers Use Customer Testimonials From The Social Space In Their Email Campaigns?

By:

Social media is increasingly becoming a channel brands can count on to reach, engage, and sell to consumers. This channel is great for initiating dialogue, and this one of the many reasons why it is viewed as a powerful marketing tool. The social channel is great for gathering consumer feedback, opinions, and even testimonials. Let"s take a look at how marketers can go about using these testimonials in their email campaigns.

Obtain Permission

Before you grab a testimonial someone left on your Facebook page or LinkedIn profile, you should probably get that person"s permission before including their commentary in your email campaign. The last thing you want is for that individual to see it and start questioning you about why they weren"t notified. While some may not mind, this may not go over well with others. There is an easy solution to this dilemma. Simply find the quotes you want to include, and then ask them for their permission to publish it in your email campaigns, website copy, and other text used to market your brand. This way, you never have to ask them again. More importantly, you get the maximum mileage out of their testimonial.

Get a Photo

Once you have permission to use the individual"s testimonial, it"s time to start thinking about how you can use those comments to make an impact. Coupling that text with a photo of the person who wrote is probably the best way to go. You essentially have two options here: you can ask the testimony giver to provide a decent photo they have on hand, or get them to take a picture that clearly illustrates how they have benefitted from using your product or service. Since the latter calls for them to go that extra mile, you may want to consider giving them a worthy incentive for their participation. It"s all up to you of course, but grouping your testimonial with a photo can work wonders in terms of adding credibility to the cause. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Insert Testimonials Wisely

Testimonials can help you harness the true power of word of mouth marketing, but how you insert them in your email campaigns is vital. There are basically two ways to present them in your message: you can either group them together in your message, or sprinkle them throughout your copy. If you plan on using more than one testimonial, you need to be very careful as too many could overwhelm your audience and potentially backfire. Too much of a good thing can definitely be overkill in this case.

A recommendation from a fan or customer you interact with on the social networks makes for a very powerful marketing tool. Testimonials from other consumers hold a lot of weight, so if you use them properly, they can work wonders for your email campaigns.
