How Bad Is Website Duplicate Content

By: Jeff Schuman

Everyone seems to have an opinion about website duplicate content. Depending on how you use duplicate content it may not be great for your business. Article marketing is one thing that comes to mind and a place where fresh content is better. In this article we will take a look at why website duplicate content may not be bad, however.

Duplicate content is already on the web somewhere. Let's take a look at a different viewpoint of duplicate content you might not have thought of.

Three things come to my mind regarding duplicate content.

1. The content is so valuable that you offer it on your website or blog. The smart Internet marketer adds content to the beginning and the end of these articles. Just offer your opinion about the content you are listing.

2. People will steal your content and pretend it is theirs. There really is nothing good about this type of content, for you or for them!

3. You use content in the form of an article and you give credit for it to the original author. This could be good for you, but the person using it really does not get a lot of benefit out of it from a search engine standpoint.

One question that came up recently in an internet marketing forum was how important is it that a website be different from all the other ones. This is a good question!

As more and more websites are built. It really is nothing wrong with having your website similar to another website. Many a good website has benn built that offers the same affiliate programs as the competiton. And you see these websites filled with content written by other people.

I think duplicate content is more an issue from a search engine standpoint. But there are a number of ways to get traffic to your website without worrying about whether a search engine is checking to see if you are avoiding duplicate content.

Some of these that come to mind include, traffic exchanges, article marketing, pay per click advertising, forum marketing, e-zine marketing, classified advertising, blogging, social bookmarking, social networking, and so on.

These are all forms of advertising you can do on the Internet, and really not worry about what the search engines think of your website or the content on it. The nice thing is, you can drive traffic to your website doing these various forms of promotion.

You are not directly targeting search engines because you're not worried about the content of an article, or the content of key words, or the content on your website in any way.

So to summarize this article on should you avoid duplicate content here is what we have found.

The answer is really what your goal is with your website and how you are going to promote it. The easiest way I know to avoid duplicate content is to start your own blog and add blog articles to it on a regular basis.

If you blog and just type your own thoughts on specific subjects your content will always be fresh. You will always be avoiding duplicate content anyway if you do this.

Other than that the method you choose to advertise will determine whether duplicate content is an important issue to your website.
