Most of the people wear engagement ring in the ring finger on the left hand. There are many origins behind this custom of wearing ring on left hand. Some people think that it is due to the fact that your heart lies on the left side or the left ring finger has a vein which directly leads towards the heart. Which of these origins is true is difficult to decide but how people of different areas use a ring to demonstrate the relation of engagement can be observed. It is custom of Ukraine to wear the ring on the right hand for the signification of engagement. People of Germany have a custom to wear the ring on left hand finger at the time of engagement but on the right hand when the couple gets married. Poland history shows that people used to wear the ring on right hand ring finger but now it has been changed.

Engagement ring Vs marriage ring

There exists confusion about the engagement ring in comparison to the marriage ring. It also has a traditional affect which gives rise to confusion if a person moves from one region to another as in some parts of the world it is the one ring which is treated as engagement as well as marriage ring. But in other parts of the world there are two rings one engagement which is to be presented at the time of engagement and the other to be presented at the time of marriage. After marriage the bridal wears both of the rings and some parts both rings are to be merged to form one ring. So it all depends on the customs and traditions of a particular region.

There can be different materials that are used for to make an engagement ring. The most common are the gold, silver, diamond and gem stones. It all depends on the budget of a family to make a choice of material for the ring. It is common in US that most of the bridals are offered with diamond rings as it is a developed country having higher per capital income. In east gold is mostly used for an engagement ring.
