Praveen Babi is a Bollywood actress who was known for her glamorous and seducing presence on screen between 70's and 80's.

Early Life:

Praveen Babi was the shining star who was born on 4th April 1949 in Junagadh, Gujarat in Muslim family. The name given to her was Parveen Wali Mohammad Khan. She was born after fourteen years and was the only child. She did her schooling in Aurangabad and college from St.Xavier Ahmadabad. Her father Vali Mohammad was the administrator with the Nawab but he died when Praveen was just seven. She was spinster but have live in relationship with director Mahesh Bhatt, actors Kabir bedi and Danny Denzonpa. She was rumored to have relationship with her co-star Amitabh Bachchan, the movies Arth and Woh Lamhe was based on her extra martial relationship. She was the one who not only smoke and drink but also openly take drugs.

Career:

She was one of the successful actresses during 70's. While she was in college, she got her first debut Charitra opposite crickter Salim Durrani in 1973. The film was flop at box office but Praveen was recognized and was approached for several films. In 1974 she was seen in Dhuen Ki Lakeer (1974) opposite Ramesh Aurora, then 36 Ghante was released , her major hit was Majboor (1974) where she was paired with Amitabh Bachchan the movie was semi hit. She and Zeenat Aman both bring the change in film industry their western image bought the new trend of fashion in Bollywood. She was strong screen rival with Zeenat Aman and one of the sex symbol for Bollywood. In her most of the films, she was paired with Amitabh Bachchan and most of the films were hit. In 1975 Deewar was released which bag Filmfare Best Movie Award and with addition of six other film fare awards it was the blockbuster hit of the year. India times rank Deewar as the top 25 must see boll wood movie. The movie star Bollywood Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Neetu Singh , Praveen Babi , Nirupama Roy. The role-played by Praveen ji was Anita whom Amitabh met in bar and both fall in love. In the movie, Praveen Babi was shown smoking. She was faithful towards her role and was appreciate for it. After Deewar,in 1976 Bullet, Bhanwar, Rangeela Ratan in 1977 Mazdoor Zindabad, Maama Bhania were released this all were not the blockbuster hit but it gave the successful bollywood star . In 1976 Praveen became the first Indian Actress to feature on Time Magazine cover, which led the success, follow her. In 1977, once again she was seen in the blockbuster hit Amar, Akbar, Anthony. Then she appeared in many movies like Mastaan Dada, Chandi Sona Darinda (1977), Chalta Purza, Chor Sipahee, Aahuti (1978 Film , Pati Patni Aur Who, Kaala Patthar, Suhaag (1979 ). She was seen in Burning Train opposite Vinod Khanna.She was also seen romancing with Shashi Kapoor in Kaala Pathar, Suhaag and Namak Halal. Then in 1980 Shaan was released with the star cast Sunil Dutt, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Satrughan Sinha, Rakhee Gulzar, Bindiya Goswami, Kulbhushan Kharbanda the movie was not the blockbuster hit but did the good business on box office. Then once again she paired opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Kaalia 1981. Their were movies like Raksha, Kranit, Gunahgar, Mangal Pandey ( 1982), Desh Premee ( 1982), Dilk Aakhir Dil Hair ( 1982 ), Bad Aur Badnaam ( 1982 ), Taaqat, ( 1982 ), Yeh Nazdeekiyan ( 1982 ) Namak Halaal ( 1982 ) Khu-daar ( 1982 ), Jaani Dost ( 1983 ) Razia Sultan ( 1983 ), Chor Police ( 1983 ), Kanoon Meri Muthi Mein ( 1983 ), Mahaan ( 1983 ), Rang Birangi ( 1983 ), Arpan ( 1983 ), Teri Baahon Mein ( 1984 ), Sitamgar ( 1985 ), Telephone ( 1985 ), Bond 303 ( 1986 ), Avinaash ( 1987 ), Aakarshan ( 1988 ), Iraada ( 1990 ) were she beg the roles this films never gain that much success in the box office but she was always appreciated for her roles. In 1983 she left the Bollywood and went to New York in some of her films were released upto 1990 the last movie was Iraada but we lost the diva of Bollywood.
