The question of hospital versus hospice continues to be debated as more and more people are having to choose care for their dying loves ones as never before. Patients that are facing the fatality due to the rigors of cancer at which time choosing a way to allow the loved one to finish the rest of their days with dignity and in a compassionate setting such as at home surrounded with family and loved ones.

There are many decisions that can be difficult to make, but this one can be especially difficult if a family member has to make the decision. Hospital care they believe is far less personal and more of a formality.

Hospice home care provides many benefits with the patients in mind and is considered a very kind and compassionate form of care for someone in the final stages of life. It is also considered to be very cost effective and very supportive of the caregiver as well, adding dignity to situation. Additional support staff can be provided by hospice for patients and the family and have many resources to find and answer questions as well as schedule and make home visits on any day of the week at anytime within the 24 hour cycle of the day.

While hospice is the answer to prayers for many people, it is not the best for everyone. Hospice is the acceptance that the end of life is near and that the patient and their family has accepted this fact as real and are looking to make the final days more comfortable in familiar surrounding with loved ones. This role is sometimes difficult for everyone, and the family members must be kept in the loop before hospice care is agreed on. It is more for finding relieve without the possibility of a cure and helps the patient stay as comfortable as possible. It is also important for any care givers to seek counseling and support to prepare for process leading up to the day of passing. Dying is never easy on anyone who is a witness of someone they care about leaving the realm of life.
