Honey Is The Natural Choice For Hayfever Sufferers

By:

If youre also one of those unfortunate people who suffer badly and who dont respond to over the counter hayfever remedies and anti-histamines, what is the answer? Good question and short of moving to another country, there really is a shortage of quick fixes on offer.

For those who suffer badly enough to have visited the doctor about it, your GP does have the authority to refer you to a specialist allergy clinic that has access to more than just anti-histamine pills. If it is considered appropriate, they can prescribe a course of immunotherapy or desensitization. This comes in injection or pill form, with the injection being suitable for grass pollen, tree pollen and pet and dust mite allergies and can give lasting respite.

Injections and western medicine are not everyones cup of tea and finding natural remedies and alternatives is rapidly growing in popularity with the television series Grow Your Own Drugs, the talk of including alternative therapies such as acupuncture on the NHS and the rising cost of the prescription. It makes sense to treat an allergy to something that occurs naturally with something thats equally as naturally occurring where possible and as hayfever is caused by tree and grass pollens as well as pets and house dust, there must be something that can be done?

Some clever soul has already bred an allergy free or hypoallergenic dog, pollen free Lilies and anti-allergen pillows, duvets, mattresses and cushions so why cant another clever soul come up with a natural anti-histamine? If we take the theory of homeopathy as a starting point, well soon see that the honey bee has an enormous part to play in reducing hayfever symptoms in the 8 to 10 million sufferers in the UK.

One of the theories behind homeopathy is the same as that of immunisation, take a little bit of the disease youre trying to cure or protect against and give it to the patient in diluted form. The reason for this is to build up antibodies in the system that can fight off the disease or allergy so that if you do ever get the disease, your body will know how to deal with it. This is the theory behind eating locally sourced honey to fight hayfever.
The best thing about eating local honey from local bees is that its delicious and can be used as a sweetener in tea and in porridge as well as in marinades, salad dressings and good old honey on toast or crumpets. Its not only a delicious way to potentially minimise or even cure your hayfever from season to season, its also a great way to save the bees which are rapidly dying out across the world.

It does this by slowly building up the same tree, flower and grass pollen in your system as the honey bees carry around on their feet and so giving you a level of natural immunisation against these common types of hayfever. If you buy honey and honey products regularly and get your friends and family to do the same, you will be helping to save the bees and to promote a natural way to combat hayfever.
