Homemade Crafts: A Creative And Constructive Way To Deal With Monotony

Despite our daily chores we have a plenty of time. Most of us dont utilize our free time constructively. We waste our precious time idle chatting, indulging in non-stop eating and watching idiot box and turning into couch potato. But can also kill the time by doing some sort of constructive work. One can make homemade crafts from the waste material that is usually fund in the house. The material that is declared discarded may be worth noting for but in reality is of great use. It can be used to make homemade stuffs at home and make most of the spare time.


These homemade craft can be gifted to the loved ones. Homemade gifts are inexpensive, fun to make and treasured by all. They have the personal touch like a priceless possession. It is made with the ingredients of love and creativity. Here some of quick and easy homemade crafts that can be tried at home:


Eggshell Trinket Box:


The egg shell that is commonly discarded can be used to decorate trinket box. Its a cost-effective way of giving mother-of-pearl effect. The finished box is surprisingly strong, and there are no flaking egg shells after two coats of decoupage and two heavy coats of iridescent pearl paint.


Materials Required: Wooden box, glue, broken white egg shells, white craft paint with a pearl, Glass Paint in ivory, paint brush, strong plastic bag, pin to break up the eggshells, screwdriver.


Procedure:



  • Take broken egg shells and crush them with a rolling pin or heavy object.


  • Spread a piece of paper and start applying the first coat of broken eggs on the box.


  • Paste egg shells with the white glue.


  • Apply eggs one side at a time.


  • Apply the medium then sprinkle on a generous pile of broken eggshells. Spread it and press down firmly with the finger tips. Continue like this until the entire outside surface of the box is covered.





Recycled Calendar Prints:


Material Required: Calendar, Picture Frame, Paint, Sandpaper, Varnish, Glue.


Procedure:

  • Take your favorite calendar picture and remove the dust.


  • Take a photo frame and cover it completely with old finish.


  • Varnish the painted frame. To give sheen to the photo frame apply the paste wax. It doesnt create the distracting glare that is in case of some varnishes.


  • Attach the calendar picture with the glue on a piece of heavy cardboard.




Light Switch Plate:


It is not only a decorative home accent but also coordinates with the light switches to suit the ambiance of the house.


Material Required: Colorful wallpaper border, light switch plate, masking tape, scissors


Procedure:


  • Take the wallpaper and place the switchplate. Center it on the design that you've chosen. In this case, I centered the hole for the switch in the middle of the birdhouse.


  • Use pencil to outline the switch hole on the front of the wallpaper.


  • Cut a line down the center of the rectangle with sharp scissors.


  • Form two flaps to fold to the back like tiny shutters, at the top and bottom of the rectangle.


  • Turn over the wallpaper to look at the back.


  • Place your cutout on the front of the switchplate, aligning the switch holes and fold the shutters to the back.


  • Fold the switch hole flaps to the back. And fold the outside edges to the back, at the same time careful to form neat corners.


  • Attach the switchplate to the wall and make your new room bright and lighted.
