By:

If you have patience, love to type while listening to a recording, then consider starting your own transcription home-based business. All you need to have is a good set of personal computer with own internet connection.

Because this is a home-based business, there is no need to secure permits such as business from the local government, even when it is a full-time undertaking.

Transcription is not easy. It needs skills such as fast typing skills, good listening comprehension skills and good grasp of English grammar and spelling to ensure accuracy of transcription.

Transcription works can be from legal, medical and technical fields. Your will be transcribing audio files recorded from lectures, seminars, workshops, financing earning calls, telephone conferencing, speeches, religious sermons, and minutes of meetings if the files are medical, technical or business.

If the files are legal, you will be transcribing files from depositions, court hearings, interrogations and law enforcement investigations.

At times, your transcription home-based business will handle transcription of trainings, conference and orientation of new hires in the law enforcement department.

You should also be familiar with the terminologies, jargons and slang speeches of the field you want to transcribe. It is best if you have a relevant background experience or training to support your qualifications.

Technical transcription may require training, short courses or workshop related to computers, business, engineering, architecture, etc.

Medical transcription may also require relevant training in the medical fields so you will not have a hard time transcribing a doctor's clinical notes, psychiatric evaluations, and reports on emergency room activity, X-ray, Operative and Laboratory.

It is important that you have certificates, trainings or workshops in your niche because this shall be the first thing that your clients would want to know.

Then, you need to decide on your business structure. There are three approaches from which you can earn through home-based transcription business.

The first is receiving tasks directly from a Client. A client is an organization that contracts directly with transcriptionists for the completion of transcription projects.

The second is by becoming a Contractor. A contractor can be a company that hires transcriptionists or individual transcriptionist that deals with clients directly.

A contractor has the responsibility of producing quality transcription works, which include editing and proofreading.

He is also responsible for submitting the completed projects and collecting payments. If he employed the services of other transcriptionists, he is responsible for sending them corresponding payment.

The third approach is by becoming a Subcontractor. A subcontractor is a transcriptionist who receives transcription works from a contractor.

He does not deal with clients. While all three approaches have good income potential, doing business directly with clients reaps the highest profits.

Develop your marketing strategies. Your selling skills must be effective. That's right. You read the word right. Selling.

You will be selling your transcription skills. Prepare your curriculum vitae specifying your relevant transcription experiences, certificates and trainings you have attended.

There are many sites on the web where you can post for free advertisements and promotions on your transcription home-based business. You can also print business cards and flyers for dissemination.
