Home Security-how Three Seconds Can Change Your Life

Home security is a very important aspect of home ownership-it is also widely neglected. That is part of the reason why burglary happens in one out of six homes every year. Homeowners make it so darn easy. Police tell us that 60 percent of all home burglaries happen through unlocked doors and windows. That's an example of how homeowners make it easy.

But there is a new twist to home burglary which is a burglary that happens when the homeowners are not there. It is a home invasion! This is usually done by two or more people who deliberately target a home because of their occupants. They frequently use violence, intimidation to get what they want.

It is much more dangerous to my way of thinking than a regular home burglary and it is becoming more common.

Believe it or not, home invasions start at the front door. When you open at front door without checking to see who's there-3 seconds is all it takes to change your life. Usually not in a good way! The home invaders are usually after money or drugs. And instead of just taking the money or drugs there is usually a rape, assault, kidnapping and perhaps even murder involved.

So what can you do to prevent a home invasion or a home burglary? Start by locking your doors and windows even when you're at home. Use your peephole to see who is at your front door instead of just opening it reflexively. If you don't have a peephole get one. Start or join a neighborhood watch. Install some alarms on your doors and windows for your own personal protection, safety and security

The best way to prevent a home invasion or home burglary is to have some security cameras installed at your front door and your back door. You can get good security surveillance cameras now for less than $150. Hook them up to a TV set so that when the door bell rings you can monitor who is at your front door. This puts you miles ahead of the bad guys.

Three seconds is all it takes to get into a home that is opened without checking to see who is there. Lock your doors and windows and use your peephole. Get some security cameras too. Prevention is much better to protect your family from a home invasion.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!
