If you watch TV or read a local newspaper you're bound to see an ad for a local security company. They are all over the place. The reason home security companies thrive is because homeowners make home burglary so easy. Almost all areas of crime in the country are on the decline and have been doing so for the last couple of years. So why is home burglary on the increase?

One reason is because as economy worsens burglars become more desperate and need to broaden their horizons. They need more targets to feed their drug habit or their families. Sad but true!

But the main reason, in my opinion, that burglary is on the increase is that homeowners make it so easy. Police statistics show that over 90 percent of all home burglaries can be prevented and that 60 percent of them happen through unsecured doors and windows. I mean come on how easy can we make it for them?

Police will also tell us that one of the best ways to prevent home burglary is the sound of a barking dog. That is why the barking dog alarm so effective.
