Home Security Tips For An In Home Art Studio

By:

If you work from home and have an art studio that you work out of, you will need to take a few added home security precautions in order to ensure that you and your work are kept safe and out of harms way. If you have young children, you must be especially cautious of keeping them far away from your toxic paints and all of the materials that comprise your studio and can be incredibly harmful to children. With a little foresight and planning you can ensure that you remain safe and that your property remains secure.

Depending on the medium that you work with, you will have different sets of tools strewn about your studio or a combination of several different ones if you are a mixed media artist. From paints to clay, knives and sculpting tools, chances are you have a whole slew of tools that never even occurred to you that could be harmful to you or your child. For your home security and safety, it is imperative that you properly store your materials away after each use and keep sharp objects safely stowed away so that you avert accidents and that your child can not get into them. Keep small items such as paints and plastic tubes in a container so that you bring them out only when you need to use them.

Make sure that you have a lock on the door to your studio and that you are the only one that has access to it with a key as you do not want your family members wandering in and disrupting your workspace as well as possibly harming themselves with tools that they are not familiar with using. Because you work with toxic materials and sharp objects your home security and safety will have to take that into account and you will have to take the necessary precautions in order to ensure that everyone in the home remains safe and stays out of harms way.

Additionally, you should do everything in your power to make sure that people on the street dont take note that you are an artist and have all of your equipment stored in your home, as you dont want to make yourself susceptible to theft or robbery. If you work on big canvases or have large sculptures, try and hide them when you transport them by putting them in an inconspicuous case or in a black fabric that hides the fact that it is a piece of art. Because art is always a sought after commodity, you dont want to draw attention to the fact that you store large quantities of art in your home. If possible, install a home alarm system in order to be able to protect yourself and your art and ensure that you have a system in place that will alert the police if the need arises. As long as you take a few precautionary measures you shouldnt encounter any problems.
