Combat Dry Hair!

The first step to combating dry hair is proper grooming. A good hair cut can remove split or damaged ends, and put a new bounce in an otherwise drab look. Shampoo your hair regularly, as needed, but keep in mind that exceedingly dry hair may need to be shampooed less, or simply shampoo the roots. Take care of your hair and you will be rewarded with beautiful, shiny hair.

Home Remedy For Dry Hair

1. Placing 1 or 2 drops of safflower oil in your palms and rub them together.

2. There should only be enough to make your hands "shine" in the light.

3. Carefully take your hair (while dry) and "scrunch" the small amount of oil to the ENDS first and work toward the scalp.

4. Leave this in your hair.

5. 1-2 drops of safflower oil on dry hair is so small, you won’t notice it is there. By doing the above as often as necessary, will ensure your dry hair will have the proper amount of humectants to attract and retain moisture. The key is a small amount will go a long way. Alternatively you can also use Flax Seed oil which works great in maintaining shiny hair!

Traditions have taught many of us that lavishly applying oil to our hair will give us the soft, shiny hair that we all desire. However more often than not, the opposite takes place. Most oils if they are not essential oils do not have the ability to penetrate into the hair shaft. Nor do heavy cholesterols. What they will do, is to lay on top of the cuticle, and coat the cuticle. This may give the hair some Brilliance. However, it will also coat the hair. And causes product build up.

Preventing Dry Hair

Truly dry hair is caused by heat and the elements, so the first step is prevention: Try to avoid using overly hot dryers and heat-styling implements, and wear a hat or scarf if you're going to be exposed to sun or wind for a long time (at the beach or skiing, for instance). Don't wash your hair every day, but do shampoo often enough to remove dirt and buildup, about two or three times a week. Make sure you always use a good conditioner. Apply conditioner only at the ends of your hair, never apply conditioner on your scalp as this can cause product build up.
