Home Remedies To Help Relieve Vaginal Itching In Bacterial Vaginosis

By:

Popular natural remedies that you can use at home to stop vaginal itching include yogurt, garlic, and tea tree oil. Many women have used these natural remedies to relieve unbearable vaginal itching associated with bacterial vaginosis.

You can find below the description on how these natural remedies for BV are usually used.

Yogurt

You can stop vaginal itching by using a yogurt tampon. Yogurt contains the live bacteria known as lactobacilli. If you didn't know, lactobacilli is one of the beneficial bacteria that naturally exist in the vaginal flora. In BV, the number of lactobacilli in the vaginal environment is significantly decreased, and yogurt is able to replenish the missing lactobacilli in the vaginal flora.

What you can do is to first dip the tampon into yogurt (use only the plain ones), and then insert into the vagina. Another way to apply yogurt to the vagina is by first freezing some yogurt in the fingers of disposable gloves. You then insert the frozen yogurt tampon into your vagina. This yogurt method works, but it can get rather messy.

Garlic

Garlic is known to have anti-bacterial properties. Just like making a yogurt tampon, you can also make a garlic tampon. First, peel a whole garlic, then make a few tiny cuts on it. After that, wrap several garlic cloves in gauze or cheesecloth and tie it with a string. Insert it into the vagina like a regular tampon, leaving the string outside to remove the garlic about 2 hours later.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has potent antibacterial properties. You use a tampon damped with tea tree oil. First, cover the top half of the tampon with a lubricant, next add a few drops of tea tree oil onto it, then insert the tampon into the vagina. The purpose of the lubricant is to prevent the tea tree oil from infusing into the tampon. A more convenient option is to buy ready-made tea tree oil pessaries. Adding 10-12 drops of tea tree oil to a warm bath is also effective for stopping bacterial vaginal symptoms.

The results from using these home remedies to stop vaginal itching may vary from one woman to another. If you think it's necessary, by all means consult your health care provider prior to using any of these remedies.
