Drugs prescribed to relieve pain or relax muscles in backache disorders do not cure common back problems. These can become habit forming and may actually perpetuate the disease in case of excessive intake.

The very common and very easy asana is the Shav asana (also known as the Corpse position) this helps in relaxing your body by lying flat on your back and relieving you from all the stress and tension. You can also do the Spinal Twist which would help in easing your tension in the upper back and shoulders, the cat stretch or cobra which increases flexibility of your spine.

Our spinal column is constituted in such a way that it provides the necessary stability to stand straight and the flexibility to move around. The spine includes a number of muscles that may get pressurized due to bad postures. Everyone of us is bound to face backache at one or the other point in our lifetime, but women in general are more prone to this problem.

If the burning backache is a mild one then relief may be possible by taking aspirin, vitamin s B1, B6 and B12 under the guidance of a doctor. Rest and sleeping on a hard bed will give immense relief from backache. Application of a heated pad will also give much wanted relief from the pain.

Back pain can also be avoided by wearing low heeled shoes, observing correct posture while sitting, using chairs with proper back rest, adjusting work surfaces height and using a pillow behind the back when on long drives. Extra support may be needed for car seats.

You may prefer to visit an osteopath or chiropractor to put your back right. Osteopathy or chiropractic involves structural manipulation of the joints to put them back in place. This is often accompanied by a cracking sound as the joints go back to the right position.

Since backache is a condition caused due to vata vitiation, any food that can aggravate the vata further must not be taken. Sour and fried foods must be totally avoided. Even pulses must be eliminated from the diet. Rice must be reduced; rather food grains such as wheat, millet and sorghum are better.
