Home Bathroom Fixtures

By:

Home bathroom sinks and home bathroom fixtures are always a concern to contend with when they go wrong. You take these items for granted when they're working properly and don't pay a second thought to it. But when you develop either a leak or tap not functioning properly or your toilet not flushing.

Home plumbing is quite basic once you know how the different whole bathroom fixtures work.

To start with you have to be equipped with basic plumbing tools. You probably have a lot of these tools already. A short list of these basic tools should be starting from the most obvious:
-A ball-peen hammer
- an assortment of screwdrivers
- channel lock pliers
- adjustable crescent wrenches
- ratchet wrench or spanner wrenches
- tube cutter
- toilet plunger
- propane torch

Some additional tools you might need would be a flashlight, caulking gun, hacksaw, tape measure, and a level.

No one likes the occasional accident such as a plugged or overflowed toilet. If you find that your toilet is not flushing and you have a build up of water and your concern is that the toilet must be plugged you have to take some preliminary steps prior to re-trying to flush again.

Every home should have a toilet plunger and if you're toilets have plugged up in a natural way this should do the trick. Lay some towels around the base of the toilet for obvious reasons so you don't have a large amount of water everywhere over your floor the towels will pick up a lot of the water. Remove anything in close proximity to the toilet that you want to have splash on. If your toilet is filled right up to the brim try letting it sit for half an hour or so for the water to seep down the toilet.

Once the level of water in the toilet is okay but not empty obviously could you do need water for this to work. You should have enough water to cover the plunger completely. You will have to open up inside the plunger is a rubber part so it is invert it outward to seal the toilet opening where the water is at the bottom. Usually the way these plungers are stored is with the rubber fold in words but when you want to use the plunger you have to fold out the rubber.

Line up the plunger with the hole and the bottom of the toilet making sure that it is ceiling cavity going into the drain pipe at the bottom of the toilet. Push (plunge) as vigorously as possible down and a straight as possible. Do this about half a dozen times or until you can see it draining. And it doesn't drain give it a rest and do it again 10 or 15 times. This should dislodge any normal substance in your toilet. The toilet plunger is critical, you should get a flanged plunger as I was explaining earlier. This is important, if you have no plunger from a long time ago they were made very well and don't work half as efficiently as this type of plunger. This plunger has a protruding seal which forces itself to jam up tight against the mouth of the toilet trap forcing the pressure of the plunger straight down instead of back up around the sides.
